Major progress on iOS development.

Wanted to mention Perian. Open source Quicktime plugin to enable playback for AVI files. I love Quicktime but didn't like the fact that AVI wasn't supported out of the box.

PHP Blog project

I've started a side project to create a object oriented PHP blog from scratch with database access. I'm using PHPMyAdmin for database access and creation. Using PHP to interact with the database and MAMP for a fast and simple PHP/MySQL/Apache configuration. Once the connection and database is setup, I'll start using it for my blog and have a current backup or all my post. I like this because when I blog ideas or things I'm working on, it tends to reinforce what I'm learning. Most of the tutorials are really easy to follow and just give you the basis which is all I want.

It will give me a test site to work on my PHP and MySQL programming. Plus, OOP PHP programming is on pointt..... Ping you later....

Been awhile

Been getting pretty familiar with PHP. Once I learned OOP with Java, moving to OOP PHP was a breeze. The PHP documentation is simple and straightforward. I went through all of the OOP documentation in one night. By the end of the night I had a state of the art login system. The syntax is literally identical to Java. The use of open source projects makes software development so much more profitable and easy.

On another note, I've been reading about this George Hotz and Sony lawsuit and I have to hand it to Mr. Hotz for his voice against proprietary companies that are trying to subject their customers to only what they want to do. If I want to manipulate some piece of hardware that I have then I should be allow to. I BOUGHT it, meaning whoever I bought it from doesn't own it anymore. It's simple. Sony please stop trying to control your customers. The fact that the federal government acknowledged iDevice jailbreakings and concluded that it didn't break Apple's copyright, gives people the right to do anything they want with their iDevice. Now, Sony, how is an iDevice different from a PS3? Don't worry, I'll wait. I would love to know.

I've been between a bunch of Apple products in my time and most of them have lasted an extreme amount of usage because of the quality that Apple puts into their products. But, there has been some Apple products that I've received broken or that have been broken in some heartbreaking manor. The following products that Apple have fixed for no cost at all:

1. 2 pairs of Apple iPod headphones.

2. 1 original iPod. (4 buttons and scroll-wheel)

3. 2007 Macbook Pro 15in 2.2 logic board.

4. 2007 Macbook Pro battery. (x2)

5. 2007 Macbook Pro power adapter.

6. 6th gen 160 gig iPod Classic.

This is an obviously reason why Mac computers last so long. I've heard from so many people that have had their Mac for over 3 years and it's working like a charm still. When they do eventually break, it's not from software. It's from hardware. Which is the way electronics should only break. Software that runs on a machine shouldn't destroy it. It really make you think that the OS really does make a difference. Software can kill hardware. (PC)

Do you love music? Would you like to meet people that have the same interest in music that you do? If you do, then you should make a last.fm account.

The image above is the desktop client that is used to sync all your music that you play on your computer and from your iPod. It's simple, all you do is listen to your music and it logs it all up to last.fm servers. Then you can search for other people based on music compatibility. It's also great for discovering new and exciting music. I've found so many amazing bands from just "scrobbling" my music to last.fm.

This is really cool. I found this stumbling on the internet.

I found this from link. It's a simple Debian based Web Server thats sole use is to upload and download files. The interesting thing about this is that it doesn't log any activity. The NYU professor that engineered this used it for this classes to share files with other students. It attracted some attention because one of the students decided to share some files that society defines as breaking copyright laws. You can be the judge of that, no need to get into any political issues. Nevertheless, this item is very cool.

Its guts:

- Free Agent Dockstar

- ASUS WL330GE wireless router (with some special open source firmware.

- 16 GB Sandisk Flash Drive with Debian Linux installed on it.

All the software is completely free and open source.

The Tor Project

The Tor Project has been around in the underground parts of the internet for a while now. I started using it about a year ago. I never liked the fact that my connection can be monitored without my consent. Honestly, it's along the same lines as wiretapping and I do not stand for it one bit.

It's simple, Tor is technically a free and open network that can be used by anyone in the world. There are many cases where Tor is a great application to help you surf the internet without looking over your shoulder. The beauty about this software is that is it completely open source (free) and does one job very well.

Java based finder using unix command line utilities

This is Java based finder/explorer that I've been building. This is my first java program and I'm absolutely in love with the Java framework and Eclipse IDE.

It does pretty much everything that a simple finder/explorer does, including:

- Copy (cp)

- Paste

- Move (mv)

- Rename (mv)

- Delete (rm)

- Find (find)

I've also programmed the ability to perform all finder functions for search results.

The best way to delete unwanted applications in Mac OS X

Some people have a hard time figuring out how to delete applications from Mac OS X. Here is a simple way to do it:

First, download AppCleaner and install it. Then drag your application to AppCleaner.

Then simply hit delete and your program is completely removed from system.

I've been using this program exclusively to handle my needs with testing software that I may or may not like. It's very handy and extremely lightweight.
